Hi,

Has anyone experienced the following error when installing the BioEra trial? Any help on how to fix this would be appreciated:

"Error opening file for writing:

full path to bioera.exe

Click Abort to stop installation, Retry to try again, or Ignore to skip this step".

That file does not exist, the directory is fully writeable, and I am logged in with an account with admin prvileges.
I am on Windows 10 (fully patched and up to date).
I do not already have BioEra installed, though the trial has previously been installed (and then removed) on this PC.

If I try to run the Uninstaller, so as to be able to try again, I receive the message: "Error launching installer".

Many thanks for any help

Did you try to select the "Ignore" option during installation? If not then try to select it and see if it helps. Windows complains about this installer because it is not signed.

If the above doesn't help, next idea is to select a different "Destination folder".

Rather than the default: "C:\Program Files (x86)\BioEraTrial\" , edit to: "C:\BioEraTrial\"

If I try 'Ignore', then the file bioera.exe (as well as a couple of others for which the error also appears) simply isn't written to the hard disk, so nothing to run.

If I try to install in another folder, this part of the install works successfully, but then I receive an error when trying to run the trial: "The application was unable to start correctly (0x000142). Click OK to close the application".

Looks like something in your system is blocking it. I just installed and tested the Trial version again just to make sure it is not caused by the installer, it works fine here.

One idea would be to try to disable antivirus if you have one (or any kind of real time protection), at least temporarily. Then install BioEra Trial again.

If I turn off all Windows Defender protection - which is the only anti-virus I have running - then the program does install.

When I try to run it, I see a console window briefly, but then nothing else happens--no BioEra window loads, nand there is no BioEra process running or stalled in the background.

If I try to run the BioEra Console batch file, then I get this error in a console window:

Launcher error3: 3678
Exit code: 0
Press any key to continue . . .

What does that mean?

(The logs folder is empty).

That means that BioEra does indeed start for a moment, and then crashes immediately.

It seems that the installation has been successful, but something in the system prevented it from running.

There would be no logs in this case, because the crash must be happening too early before logs are initialized.

I can't explain it, but it looks like Windows (or maybe some sort of malware protection software) must be killing it immediately. The fact that Windows Defender prevented the installation is also very unexpected. I am wondering if that Windows version has some unusually elevated security settings.

If you have a chance to try it on another computer it might help.

I don't have another computer, no.

I don't have any anti-malware stuff running, or any elevated security settings--it's just the default.

Do you see "diagnostic.zip" file in the main BioEraTrial folder?

I am not sure if it was created due to the immediate crash. But if you do have it and can send it, I will take a look.
